Looking to add a touch of magic to your little girl's dress-up collection? Why not create a beautiful ballerina costume complete with a tutu and fairy wand? Or create this costume for your Ballerina Princess for Halloween! Follow these tips to make your own enchanting ensemble.
Choose the Perfect Tutu
Start by selecting the perfect tutu for your little ballerina. Opt for a soft, tulle skirt in her favorite color. She will dress to impress - this tutu will get hours and hours of wear and may become her signature outfit!
Add a leotard or shirt. Note: Many dress up tutus for kids are quite thin. I recommend wearing tights underneath a leotard or tucking a shirt into a pair of leggings before putting the tutu on top to complete the outfit.
Create a Fairy Wand
A fairy wand doesn't need to be expensive. Simply trace a star design onto a piece of cardboard or a foam craft sheet, then cut it out with scissors. Decorate with adhesive jewels or markers or cover with tin foil for a metallic look. Attach the star to a wooden dowel or an unsharpened pencil with Tacky Glue or a glue gun.
Ballerina Hair Bun & Crown
Give your child the classic ballerina look by putting her hair in a bun. First, form a pony tail. Twist and wrap the pony tail to create a bun and hold it in place with a scrunchie or bobby pins. For a tight bun that will truly hold, cover the bun with a hair net before adding bobby pins. If this hairstyle doesn't work for your child, create your own!
Add a crown or tiara for the final princess touch. Purchase a crown at your local dollar store or create your own.
It's easy to make a crown from craft foam by cutting out a crown shape (flat along the bottom edge and zig zags along the top edge), then fastening the two ends together with a stapler. Decorate with stick-on jewels, or not, and attach the crown to a headband with a glue gun.
Ballet Slippers or Street Shoes?
It's not very practical to trick-or-treat in ballet slippers, but your child will have so much fun dancing around the house in a pair of special pink ballet shoes. Who says ballerinas can't wear slip-on shoes or boots for a Halloween night out in the neighborhood collecting candy? It will most likely add to the charm!
Creating a ballerina costume for your little girl is a fun and rewarding project that will spark her imagination and creativity. With a few simple supplies and a little bit of creativity, you can make a magical ensemble that will bring her so much joy.
